Sport in Schools & Health and Physical Education
At our school, sport and physical movement are woven into the fabric of daily life for all primary years students. We follow the BCE Health and Physical Education curriculum, which emphasises the development of fundamental movement skills, physical literacy, and healthy lifestyle habits from the earliest years. Research shows that regular physical activity is vital for young children's growth, motor skill development, and brain function, supporting academic learning and emotional wellbeing.
Our HPE program is delivered collaboratively by both classroom teachers and our dedicated sport teacher, ensuring every student receives high-quality instruction and opportunities to be active both in and out of the classroom. Early years students especially benefit from engaging, play-based activities that build coordination, balance, and social skills, laying a strong foundation for lifelong health, resilience, and a love of movement. Through sport, students learn teamwork, perseverance, and self-confidence, making physical education a cornerstone of personal and community growth.
Interschool sport offers our senior students the chance to engage in structured competitions against other schools, building skills and school spirit through friendly rivalry. These programs are designed to complement our health and wellbeing curriculum, promoting active lifestyles and teamwork within our community. Each school develops an approach tailored to local needs, considering district size, available resources, and traditions to ensure participation and success for all students.
Each year a variety of sports are offered such as Tennis, Rugby League, Rugby Union, Cricket, Basketball, Netball, Soccer. Leading into the commencement of the semester sport, students opt into a sport and teams are created. The program runs in two seasons, Winter (semester 1) and Summer (Semester 2) on Friday afternoons.
More information about the Qld Interschool Sport Programs can be found on the Sporting Schools website.
Representative Sport
Our school offer a wide range of sporting opportunities designed to promote physical health, teamwork, and personal growth. Students can participate in school-based programs and progress to representative levels through the Metropolitan West School Sport pathway. Met West is one of 12 regions in Queensland, covering areas including Ipswich and the Lockyer Valley, and provides access to trials for students aged 10–19 across more than 21 sports.
The pathway begins at school level through senior interschool sport, athletics carnival, cross country, and the swimming carnival and then progress to district trials, advances to regional, state, and even national competitions for talented athletes. This structure ensures every student from affiliated schools—state, independent, and Catholic—has the chance to showcase their skills and represent their region at higher levels of competition.

Our specialised sporting clinics provide students with unique opportunities to learn from expert coaches and develop their athletic abilities in a supportive environment. Sports such as BCE Rugby 7's, AFL, Touch Football, Netball, and Basketball are delivered through structured sessions that focus on fundamental skills, game strategies, and fitness. These clinics are designed to cater to all ability levels, ensuring every student can participate, improve, and enjoy the experience.
By bringing professional coaches into schools, these programs offer high-quality instruction that goes beyond regular PE lessons. Students gain access to advanced techniques, drills, and feedback that enhance performance and understanding of the game. Clinics also promote teamwork, resilience, and confidence, as students work collaboratively in skill-building activities and small-sided games. Beyond physical development, these experiences foster a love for sport and encourage lifelong participation in active, healthy lifestyles.
